About UsA Brief History When the Santa Fe Railroad came through in 1887-1888 Davis was a thriving village. People used stores as banks for leaving their funds. On July 31, 1894, a few of the leading merchants, farmers, and cattlemen met and decided they needed a bank. It was in 1895, under the Oklahoma Territory law that this vision became The Farmers Bank with its incorporation under the territorial banking law. Before Davis became incorporated in 1898, the area was known as Chigley Flat. The city of Davis received its name from Mr. Samual Houston Davis who came from Dennison, Texas. In 1899, The Farmers Bank found that the farming and mercantile business of the town required more capital to handle the business. After considerable correspondence with Washington officials, on March 12, 1900, by authority of the President of the United States, William McKinley and C.G. Dawes, Comptroller of the Currency, a charter was granted to the First National Bank of Davis, Indian Territory, with a capital stock of $50,000. On March 23, 1900, the directors met and having all necessary details worked out, a motion was made and unanimously carried to instruct the Cashier to open the next day, March 24, 1900 as The First National bank of Davis. The First National Bank was originally located on Main Street, where the Davis News now stands. In 1910, a new building was constructed on the corner of Main and Third Street. Since 1993, new ownership leads the First National bank with W.A. “Dub” Moore serving as President. Today, the First National Bank of Davis is still conveniently located at the main intersection of downtown Davis at 227 East Main Street. Many changes have occurred since the city of Davis was established. We at the First National Bank of Davis are pleased to have shared in the history of Davis. We are over 100 years old and the oldest bank in Davis and Murray County. We are proud of our legacy and pioneering spirit. Our success is possible because of valuable friends and customers who have provided us the opportunity to serve them and have reciprocated by giving their loyalty and support through these many years. They have furnished the inspiration for service and growth and have kept us aiming for progress in the community and area which we serve. We affectionately extend 100+ years of “THANK YOU”.
